It’s time to saddle up.

I have been writing a book about leadership and balance for almost a year. The working title is Dear Leader: Reflections on Living, Loving, and Leading in this Crazy World.

Leadership is one of those things that you can practice and practice and still feel like you are not really good at, and we all can benefit from a bit of coaching. This book is like having a leadership coach on your nightstand. It is written in a conversational style and uses quotes to engage some thinking on the topic of leadership and then connects to self-care and reflections for leaders who are trying to balance the multitude of demands that life gives us.

Learning new habits is never easy (it actually takes 21 times of doing something to establish a habit and if you are trying to break a habit it takes even longer), and I know that I am still struggling with balance and self-care even after all that I have been through. People in leadership roles have a tendency to believe they can keep going, no matter what is happening around them. Too many of us have found out that is a false narrative and we have to approach our lives, our relationships, and our work with more purpose and better balance.

So, I will be publishing some of the reflections here to get feedback prior to sending queries about agents and publishing. There are a large number of books about leadership, but the style and tone of Dear Leader is not something that is currently on the shelves. My goal is to publish in 2019, so I greatly appreciate your genuine and honest feedback as I work to achieve that goal.

With optimism, Carin
